Foundation Charter

The Charles Surendorf II Art Foundation's mission is to inspire young, aspiring artists in our nation's high schools. We do this with assemblies, exhibitions, and week-long workshops exclusively for and at high schools, using the art of Charles Surendorf II as a springboard, while teaching his unique block printing technique.

Surendorf was a multi-media artist and educator, working many years in Columbia, California where he raised his family, worked in his studio, and exhibited his works in a gallery on Main Street. The Foundation supports other artists, especially those in local communities where Foundation events are held. Read more in our Backgrounder and Fact Sheet.

Education a Key Focus

Education is key to the Foundation's strategic focus. Art - in its many forms - is the central expression of a culture; it is a tragedy for a culture to lose its art. As our country's public educational institutions suffer repeated budget cutbacks, art is one of the first areas of scaling back. The impact is enormous, but often not felt for years to come. The works of the Foundation aim to help keep art alive in our schools and in communities. Read more about our program here.

Actively Supporting Students Through Scholarships

For students who attend workshops and participate in original creations, the Foundation will present small gift scholarships, specifically donated by sponsors to support the future education and efforts of promising artists. The gifts are to help bolster the country's future artists' dreams and expressions.

Charles Surendorf II Art Foundation Established

The Charles Surendorf II Art Foundation was established as a public benefit corporation in May of 2010. It was awarded 501(c)3 status by the IRS. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

The Foundation is operated by a minimum of five (5) directors, with Cindy L. Surendorf as the Executive Director. Several committees manage the daily business objectives, and a Board of Advisors is being formed to help guide the Foundation to best serve the public.
